Language Village Schedule: April to September 2024

Thigibh don Bhaile Chànain!

The Language Village is an interactive, engaging space at festivals in which Scottish Gaelic / Gàidhlig is being spoken, people are being introduced to the language, and everyone can take part in singing, learning, and other activities – from new learners to fluent speakers.

This year we will again be at several festivals.  Check out the list below for our current stops.  We’ll update it as we go. At each one, we will run a variety of language activities throughout the festival designed to appeal to children as well as adults, including sessions on Gàidhlig poetry, Gàidhlig song, and introductory Gàidhlig classes, plus a participatory waulking song session, displays of the history and cultureof the Scottish Gael, an area for games and other activities in which you can learn and use some Gaelic, and impromptu poetry, music, and conversation.

• Southern Maryland Celtic Festival on Saturday, 27 April at Jefferson Patterson Park, 10515 Mackall Road, St. Leonard, Maryland 20685
• Fair Hill Scottish Games on Saturday, 18 May at the Fair Hill Fairgrounds, Elkton, Maryland.
• Carroll County Celtic Festival on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of June at the Carroll County Agriculture Center, 706 Agriculture Center Drive, Westminster, Maryland 21157.
• Penn-Mar Irish Festival on Saturday, 15 June at The Markets at Shrewsbury, 12025 Susquehanna Trail, Glen Rock, Pennsylvania 17327
• Virginia Scottish Games & Festival on Saturday, 31 August, and Sunday 1 September at the Great Meadows, 5089 Old Tavern Road, The Plains, Virginia 20198.
