The St. Andrews Society of Washington, DC

Dear Mr. Morrison,

Thank you very much for your application to the St. Andrew’s Society of Washington, DC’s Charity & Education Fund Scholarships Program. This year the Committee was presented with an extremely competitive field of candidates, and it is therefore with great pleasure that I have the honor of informing you of the success of your application. The Society’s Board of Managers accepted the Scholarships Committee’s recommendations, and the decision was taken to award you a St. Andrew’s Scholarship in the amount of $3,000.

The St. Andrew’s Scholarships were established to support Scots and Americans of Scottish descent in their pursuit of University degrees. The Scholarships Committee is very pleased to be able to offer financial support of your studies of Gaelic Language and Culture through the University of the Highlands & Islands’ Gaelic language arm Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

Payment of the award will be made by the Society directly to the Bursar/Treasurer’s Office of your University. Please be in contact with them to ascertain exact information regarding how they would prefer to receive this payment to your credit, and relay this information to me at your earliest convenience.

Please be aware that an expectation of the Scholarships Program is feedback from those receiving funding. As a St. Andrew’s Scholar, we would ask that as your academic year progresses, you would please keep us periodically informed of your progress. We often publish in the Society’s quarterly journal, The Whin & Thistle, updates (with photos when available) about the work our Scholars are doing. In addition, we encourage our Scholars to submit to the journal for publication short topical essays or articles.

Please review the text below, which we plan to use in Press Releases about this year’s Scholarships Program. Feel free to reply with any modifications, additions, deletions or corrections. Please also identify any newspapers, journals, University alumni bulletins, or other publication through which we might make your success known to a wider audience.

On behalf of the Society, the Committee, and indeed personally, allow me to extend sincere congratulations. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.

pax,

T.J. Holland, Chairman
Scholarships Committee
St. Andrew’s Society of Washington DC
